Mr Wood provides services in general Plastic Surgery and has specialist expertise in reconstruction of the abdominal wall (belly) or following cancer.

If it is decided that you would benefit from a procedure or operation, Mr Wood will discuss your different anaesthetic options:

  • Local anaesthetic – numbs the operation site whilst you are awake
  • Sedation – local anaesthetic is used to numb the operation site, and a mild sedative is given so you are less aware of what is happening around you.
  • General anaesthetic – you are totally asleep during the operation.

For sedation or General Anaesthetic you should have nothing to eat or drink (nil by mouth) for 6 hours before the procedure.  You can have a sip of clear water to take your tablets up to 2 hours before the procedure.  For day surgery, you should have someone to take you home after your procedure and spend the night at your home.
